Morning and Evening, No Thoughts

All thoughts arise from desires. When one desires

, one desires to obtain

; when one obtains, one desires to seek more. Thus, body and mind are consumed by desires, and one thinks of them day and night. The Way

is hidden and nameless, which makes the superior man inactive

and without action. In this inactivity, there is no thought, and in this absence of existence, the world exists.

Therefore, Lao Tzu said: "The Way gives birth to them, Virtue nourishes them, things take shape, and circumstances bring them to fruition."
